This quarter was a great season of service for Project H.E.L.P. (HIV Education Learning and PrEP) Community Health Worker Program (CHWP). The CHW team at AIDS Foundation Houston was able to serve and expand awareness of HIV/AIDS resources in the community by partnering with some great community organizations. The Emancipation Community Center Back to School Bash and The Shape Center were two of those buzz-worthy community outreach projects.
Project H.E.L.P participated as a vendor in the 7th annual Back to School Bash on August 17th at the Emancipation Community Center. The Emancipation Park Community center, a community monument, is located in the core of 3rd Ward Houston and the target area of Project H.E.L.P. The event which brought in hundreds of community members provided screenings, community resources, and health information to the neighboring community. The CHW vendor table provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about our organization.
Project H.E.L.P was asked to conduct weekend education workshops at the Shape Community Center. The Shape Community Center, located in 3rd ward Houston, provides many community developmental programs for children, youth, adults, public organizations, and groups. Shadarian Holmes and Kathy Allen (pictured below) hosted informational sessions on accessing PrEP and HIV/AIDS resources.
AIDS Foundation Houston works diligently to stay involved in the community by connecting the community to resources. For more information visit http://www.aidshelp.org.
